Delhi High Court to Review Petition for Postponing CA Inter and Final Exams During Elections

The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear a petition today, April 8, regarding the proposed postponement of the ICAI CA Inter and Final exams for the May 2024 session. As reported by the Times of India, candidates set to appear in these exams have urged the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to consider postponing the exams in light of the 18th Lok Sabha polls. The institute had previously revised the exam dates for CA Inter and Final, but aspirants have sought further adjustments to the schedule, leading to the filing of a petition at the Delhi High Court.

In response to the concerns raised due to the general elections, the revised dates for the CA Inter Group 1 exams are set for May 3, 5, and 9, as opposed to the initial schedule of May 7. The Group 2 exams will now take place on May 11, 15, and 17, instead of the previously announced dates of May 9, 11, and 13. Similarly, the Final Group 1 exams have been rescheduled for May 2, 4, and 8, moving from the originally planned dates of May 6, while the Group 2 exams are now slated for May 10, 14, and 16, rather than May 8, 10, and 12.

The official notice by ICAI clarifies that there will be no changes to the examination schedule in the event of any of the mentioned exam days coinciding with a declared Public Holiday by the Central Government, State Government, or Local Authority.

Meanwhile, the ICAI had previously announced a significant alteration to the examination structure, stating that the Foundation and Inter exams would now be held thrice a year, as opposed to the previous schedule of twice a year. Dhiraj Khandelwal, a Central Council Member (CCM) of the ICAI, welcomed this change and shared the news on the microblogging site X. He expressed, “Welcoming move by the ICAI to bring a beneficial change in favour of the CA student fraternity by introducing CA examinations thrice a year for CA Foundation and CA Inter level. Further Updates shall be clarified by the ICAI soon.”

The outcome of the hearing at the Delhi High Court on the petition to postpone the ICAI CA Inter and Final exams remains highly anticipated by the candidates and stakeholders involved. The decision could potentially impact the academic pursuits of numerous aspiring chartered accountants, and further updates on the matter are awaited.

This is a developing story, and further details will follow as the situation unfolds.
